Alberto Martín

Alberto holds a degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Vigo and a Master in Marine Environmental Protection from Bangor University, Wales. Alberto has more than 20 years of experience in the marine sector, including work in aquaculture and coordination of fishery improvement programmes. He has extensive experience in developing countries, Africa and Latin America, most notably as project coordinator for the CETMAR Foundation in Cape Verde.

Prior to joining the MSC he was deputy director of the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF), an international NGO based in London. This position included the development of campaigns to curb illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and the protection of marine biodiversity.

Since 2017 Alberto is part of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). He joined first as fisheries manager for Spain and Portugal, then coordinating the MSC's work with fisheries in the Southern Europe, Africa, Middle East and South Asia region and most recently he has been appointed MSC director for Spain and Portugal.
